Employee state insurance (ESI) is a scheme launched by the Government of India to provide workers with medical, financial, and other benefits. Any factory, business, or establishment that employs more than 10 people at a minimum wage of Rs. 21,000 is required to register with the ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation). In industrial units where there is a risk of injury or health difficulties occurring on the firm premises, ESI registration is compulsory.

The Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), an autonomous organization within the Government of India's Ministry of Labor and Employment, supervises and regulates ESI. Through ESI employees get the following benefits:

Benefits of ESI

Employees who receive ESI have the following benefits:

  • Members of the ESI and their families are entitled to comprehensive medical treatment and insurance.
  • Pregnant women have the right to maternity benefits for up to twenty-six weeks.
  • Employees who are disabled might receive up to 90% of their monthly salary as disability payments.
  • If an employee dies while on the job, their dependents will get 90 % of their salary.
  • If an employee is ill, they can take an absence from work for a maximum of 91 days per year and will get 70% of the monthly wages.
  • Employees can receive physical rehabilitation if they are physically disabled as a result of an occupational injury or occupational risks.
  • Medical benefits are available to retiring ESI employees as well as those who choose VRS/ERS.
  • ESI members suffering from chronic ailments are eligible for the extended sickness benefit for a period of up to 2 years.
