India Organic Certification is a label provided to organic products following validation that certifies that the product or raw materials used in the product were cultivated without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or hormones. Based on conformity with the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), a trademark "India Organic" is awarded to products that are organically cultivated.
The India Organic Certification symbol verifies that an organic food item meets the standards of NPOP. The certification is provided when a firm satisfies the conditions that the organic products are grown using an environmentally and socially responsible farming strategy that avoids the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Farming that works at the grass-roots level, protecting the soil's reproductive and regenerative capacity, good plant nutrition, effective soil management to produce nutritious, and disease-resistant food, is given the certification in India.
The authority that governs India Organic certification
The NPOP which is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry oversees organic farming certification in India. Testing centers certified by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority under the Government of India's National Program for Organic Production issue the certification. Farms that have earned Organic Farming Certification and meet the National Program for Organic Production's guidelines will be permitted to use the India Organic logo on their produce.
Benefits of India Organic Certification
India Organic is a certification mark given to food produced in India using organically grown crops. Organic food certification ensures that businesses meet the established requirements. A certificate holder will reap the following benefits:
Export facilitation: The European Commission and Switzerland have recognized NPOP standards for production and accreditation systems as equivalent to their country standards for unprocessed plant products. Importing countries accept Indian organic products that have been duly recognized by India's accredited certifying authorities. Certification allows Indian company's organic products to be exported to the European Union and Switzerland.
Product credibility: Indian Organic Certification guarantees that food labeled as "organic" is genuinely organic. Consumers can purchase a product with confidence that it is 100% authentic due to the certificate. This increases the product's credibility.
No fraud: Fraud and mislabeling occur when a Food Business Operator labels a product as organic despite the presence of non-organic ingredients or when organic production criteria are not followed during the manufacturing process. Organic certification, on the other hand, eliminates the possibility of fraud and mislabeling.
Availability of loans: Loans are available from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to companies with an India Organic Certification.
Availability of subsidies: The government provides subsidies to businesses that have received organic certification.
